A poor Thai woman was able to order only small and very cheap melo seashells for dinner. From that moment on, her life took a sharp turn, because in one of the shells a woman found a pearl worth tens of millions of rubles.
Kodchakorn Tantivivatkul ordered shells from a nearby market vendor. This modest dinner cost the woman only 70 baht, the equivalent of 171 rubles. Kodchakorn carefully cleaned the shells and cut the meat into small pieces so that it would be enough for the morning.
In one of the sinks, the woman found some orange round thing and decided that it was just a stone. Luckily, curiosity got the better of me. Kodchakorn examined the find closer and realized that in front of her was an orange pearl weighing 6 grams and 1.5 centimeters in diameter. The woman entered the parameters of the find on the net and quickly found out that she had come across a rare melo pearl, and quite large for its kind. A pearl of this size at an auction costs about 10 million baht, that is, 25 million rubles.
The high cost is due to the rarity of pearls. In melo shells, not mother-of-pearl, but orange formations appear, they are very much appreciated by collectors. Taika has already put her find up for auction and found the first buyers. The highest bidder will receive the pearl.
A similar story happened to the Thai fisherman. He thought he found a Christmas decoration and it also turned out to be an expensive pearl.
